Fish are the first known vertebrates, can live in any type of water environment and are the stepping stone to all land walking animals. The most evolution happened between the time periods of Silurian and Devonian, 5 to 3.2 million years ago, when jawless fish became more diverse. The jaws evolved in the gills, small bones began to from in the slits, and then fused together with the skull. The Tetrapod was the first true legged fish that could walk on land. Most of the fish are now extinct except for a few. After the few that had a successful creation of a limb, they started to reproduce and then the true limb began to form on the new animal. Although scientists have found many fossils and put together part of their evolution, there is still many things to still learn about fish.  http://serendip.brynmawr.edu/exchange/node/1904
