Discovery of the Largest Orbweaving Spider Species: The Evolution of Gigantism in Nephila

There are more than 41,000 spider species in the world that we know of. Around 400-500 are added to this list each year. The giant golden orbweaver is dated back to the 19th century. They are known to be the biggest orb weavers. These orb weavers are called Nephilia.  The females have increased in size. This is useful to them because they are hunted less, and are more capable of protecting the baby spiders.
